The quality of food was very good and the price was reasonable however the service was quite shocking.

We were hurried by the waitress to order as we were told they were taking last orders. This was fine and so we went ahead however half way through our meal the waitress came over to tell us that the restaurant was closing and gesticulated at us to hurry up and finish our food. We were rather taken aback by this and continued to eat with the added pressure of finishing quicker. The atmosphere of our lunch was dampened at which point, my friend tried to lift it by asking whether we could have an extra half an hour to finish our food. By this point we had noticed that the music had been turned off, the lights were off and the staff were already out of their work clothes and waiting around in their jackets. Another waitress told us that they would be locking the door at 3pm (in 15 minutes) and ignored our request to have some extra time. Our bill was brought to us immediately after finishing.

I felt this was a real shame as the food quality really was good however it is so important to be hospitable to your customers. You are not providing a good service if you are shoeing your customers out and making them rush their food. It doesn't matter what time you shut for the afternoon, if your customers are still eating, you wait. It is understandable to want to start packing up and tidying up however turning the lights and music off - absolutely not. It is exceptionally rude and we were all very taken aback by this behaviour. It was such a shame as the food was good but you left us leaving with a bitter after taste. We didn't even get a chance to order some dessert even though we were keen to try some of the green tea ice cream. It wasn't even offered to us.

I always considered the Japanese to be very brilliantly humble and welcoming hosts however this experience has taught me otherwise.

It is worth investing some efforts into making sure this never happens again as you really can ruin someone's experience.

We are terriblly sorry for your disappointment. The managers of Swiss Cottage branch have been informed about your experience and we will definately improve the quality of food and customer service.

I visited your restaurant with my partner on 11th November, and was thoroughly disappointed with the quality of food. We have been to your restaurant 10+ times before and have always appreciated the quality of the ingredient and the food, but we have not been back in the past 6 months as we’ve moved away from the area – based on our recent experience we will not be going back soon.

I’d like to note two areas needing improvement – service and quality of food preparation. It took a while (5 minutes) for the waitress to take our order even though the restaurant was not busy, they forgot our appetiser (I know this is complimentary, but the table next to us was given it and we watched them eat while waiting for our food). Also, the agadashi tofu came BEFORE the sashimi, which should always be the first course.

More importantly, the quality of the sushi was very poor. The sizes of the sushi was very small, and the cucumber maki roll was not fresh – we knew this because the seaweed was soggy rather than crunchy. One of the reasons why we go to a sushi bar is because it’s freshly prepared, and not the usual factory-prepared Wasabi / Itsu sushi. For the price difference we expect a certain level of quality and your Swiss Cottage store clearly missed the mark.
